‘It’s time to pamper yourself with TEA, an integral part of our tradition. TEA with the feeling of serenity that will settle in your mind with the clinking of porcelain cups and the relaxing sound of water pouring from the basin next to it onto the marble floor; The dance of purification coming from the soil on your skin.’ – Regalien
Dem is part of Regalien’s Ottoman Bath Rituals collection. I had the pleasure to attend a launch event back in December and Dem is definitely my favorite of the trio that was released (followed by Efil, with the still solid Hamman coming in third).
Dem is the tea-inspired concept from the line, which usually makes for a good fragrance. Tea can however be a bit… delicate and transparent in fragrances, but I really like that Dem is a tad heavier and sweeter than most.
While still, a clear, crisp tea front and center, with some soapiness to it as well, straight away there’s hint of something slightly darker. The overall vibe grows warmer and sweet spicy to my nose. Cinnamon isn’t among the notes, but I could picture it. It has a tingling soft spicy feel and the more the wear progresses, the sweeter and more rounded it gets.
Whereas the opening has some citrussy facets, the drydown is quite interesting. The tea vibe is still prominent later on and it has quite an interesting scent that I haven’t been able to place yet. I guess I would say it’s very… floral? Almost vegetal. I think it could be a root-like ginger that I’m getting, but it reminds me of rose hip and of floral shampoos. Dem feels like it has red and green hues to me and texture wise it’s quite slick and smooth.
Performance is definitely above average for a tea scent for me. From the ones I’ve tried, Dem is my favorite Regalien release, followed by Clubs Of Iris.
