‘Decas celebrates 10 years since the release of the first perfume in the Xerjoff 1861 collection, and evokes an inspiring mood with zesty notes of Calabrian mandarin. Intriguing and opulent, top notes of tuberose and tobacco lead the nose towards a heart of Italian orris and rich, ceremonial Benzoin, emulating the regal atmosphere of historic Italy. Smoky, soft opopanax warms at the heart of the fragrance whilst notes of musk, balsam and vanilla provide a grounding base.’ – Xerjoff
Decas is is a sweet, tobacco and tuberose tinged amber fragrance with a lot of freshness to it as well. It’s very smooth and resinous, with benzoin and opoponax listed, but there’s a healthy dose of mandarin in the opening.
It has a bit of that fruity musk vibe that seems popular lately (like in the Initio’s and a lot of more recent Xerjoff releases), but the tuberose and tobacco combination take it to another level. This is actually the same combination from my favorite Xerjoff, Lunosa, but much lighter and ultimately not quite as impressive.
On first impression, Decas is a solid release that I instantly enjoyed, but the drydown leaves a lot to be desired.
