‘With a vibrant composition, Darcy is a festive encounter that is captivating and vivacious. This compelling eau de parfum opens with a sunny, sweet aroma of bergamot, orange and citrus. A sensual bouquet of rose and jasmine is found at the heart and delights. With a smooth base of patchouli, musk and praline, the aromatic composition unfolds, finding merriment in its splendour. Through the blend of citrus accents with sweet floral notes, fleecy white musk and patchouli, Darcy is for the Parfums de Marly woman who is looking for a scent with a sensual and charming character. Presented in a fully gold bottle that lends a further touch of sophistication, this signature olfactory by Parfums de Marly is both sparkling on the outside as it is on the inside.’ – Parfums de Marly
First things first; this is easily a unisex fragrance, so for the guys out there that are a bit weary of seeking out fragrances that are marketed towards women, don’t let that scare you off.
What you get with Darcy is a combination of fruits, sweetness, rose and musk. It opens very fruity and citrus-forward, in a lemonade like way rather than natural smelling fruits. I wasn’t impressed by the first couple of minutes, but as it starts to drydown, more and more of the patchouli comes through. It gets very sweet, chocolately, almost caramel-like, combined with the fruits.
The more acidic citrus fades quickly, but you’re left with candy or lemonade like orange, maybe peach and rose. It’s an interesting dichotomy to my nose, that never really blends into one cohesive scent (although completely different in scent, I have the same experience with the opening from Casamorati Lira, where the citrus and the sweetness live next to each other). Some wafts I get a fruity rose, some wafts a sweetness. What elevates this fragrance for me is the way it wears. This isn’t a very loud fragrance, which would make a scent profile like this hard to pull off for me. Rather it’s a seductive cloud, definitely noticeable, but not shouty, which adds a needed touch of maturity.
I think I’d still prefer this on a woman, but I can also pull this off easily, maybe not to the office, but it makes for a great date night type fragrance.
