Atelier Materi is a beautiful brand, that I sampled earlier on in my fragrance journey. My favorite scent of theirs so far is probably Cacao Porcelana. Now I’m back to review one of their subsequent releases, Cuir Nilam.
As the name suggests, a leather fragrance and it’s definitely one for the leather lovers. I don’t include myself in that group, although it always smells nice and I must say that Cuir Nilam is probably my favorite of the ‘almost completely’ leather fragrances that I’ve reviewed lately.
It reminds me a little bit of Goldfield & Banks Purple Suede, which was sweeter, which I like, but the quality of the Atelier Materi is undeniably top-notch. It has a nice feeling, with a natural smelling, dusty, grainy leather to my nose, that’s somehow made quite soft after the initial minutes.
This is especially interesting given the other notes (tobacco, patchouli, rose). To my nose it smells more in the aromatic direction with a floral hint, but it all feels like decoration and texture surrounding a very prominent, yet easy to wear and classy leather. I’m sure with more wears (or if you’re less sensitive to leather fragrances), more nuances will stand out.
Definitely a fragrance content deserving of its pretty encasing and I’d rate this one up there with the best of the Atelier Materi lineup.
