Compliment was the first Maison Violet fragrance that I came across and enjoyed. After having tried it again recently, it might win out the battle with Un Air D’Apogée and Cycle 001 for being my second favorite of the brand (behind Sketch).
Compliment is a conspicuous white floral; mostly jasmine, but tuberose rears its head from time to time as well. It’s a powdery affair (although, one of the only fragrances from the house that doesn’t have a prominent iris). Instead, you get a sweeter vanilla, benzoin and heliotrope (more akin to Sketch and Un Air D’Apogée than some of the other brighter ones from the house.
In general, it’s a rather loud and strong fragrance at first. It has a slight bitterness, like a green tea-vibe that you often get with jasmine, but the sweeter notes do come through rather quickly. Compliment definitely goes in the same direction as Frederic Malle Carnal Flower, but also reminds me of the slightly lactonic Milano Fragranze Cortile. If you like either of those styles, Compliment won’t disappoint, as the quality is top-notch in my opinion.
