‘Michel Almairac presents his olfactory masterpiece: Comète Paradis. This fragrance pushes boundaries with its exquisite blend of rare ingredients. Immerse yourself in the warmth of New Caledonian sandalwood, a rich and timeless essence that forms the heart of this aromatic symphony. The tonka bean from Venezuela gives the fragrance a sensual depth that particularly highlights the delicious coconut note that characterizes Comète Paradis. An exclusive cocoa powder of unparalleled quality, sourced exclusively from Robertet, gives the composition an unprecedented depth. This luxurious ingredient reveals a delicious facet that gives the fragrance irresistible appeal. As the fragrance progresses, the musk note characteristic of Michel Almairac unfolds and leaves an indelible sensory impression. Comète Paradis is an ode to opulence, a celestial dance of rare ingredients orchestrated into an unforgettable fragrance experience that lingers on the skin like stardust.’ – Parle Moi De Parfum
For some reason, I never properly dove into Parle Moi de Parfum properly; only smelling them in stores a couple of times before. When Comete Paradis launched I kept it on my radar and after smelling it in store, I was quite impressed. How does it hold up when wearing it?
Pretty good. This is a warm, vanillic scent with a good differentiating edge to it, based on my frame of reference. It has a darker lean for vanilla, but not in the often seen saffron, spicy or Westernized oud directions in recent years.
For me, this opening has some of the ‘band-aid’ vanilla aspect found in YSL Babycat or Laboratorio Olfattivo Vanigloria, but perhaps a tone darker (maybe that’s where the cocoa comes in for me most), than those and at the same time, more focused on vanilla. I never get fully comfortable with the band-aid, dry vibe, but I do find comfort instantly with Comete Paradis. A good mix of dry, spicier vanilla and a milkiness.
The coconut or cocoa aren’t very pronounced for me, as woody notes and vanilla are forward, but it does have a coconutty tinge to the mid of the wear. The late drydown especially feels mostly woody to me, instead of the perhaps expected purely vanillic skin scent. The quality feels top notch and is a stand out feature; Comete Paradis is what I hoped from the (for me disappointing) Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder.
Overall, a great release and another sign that I should look into Parle Moi de Parfums more in the future.
