‘Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian minimalism and avant-garde art, Clary Fig is an olfactive representation of an unforeseen combination. The name is as obvious as the scent itself. A sweet and complex clary sage and fig accord meets sparkling citrus notes and loud spices – a comforting base with a subtle yet striking twist.’ – Carl Kling
Clary Fig is great, but not full of surprises. This is one of those fragrances where you can take a look at the note breakdown and get a pretty good idea of what to expect.
The notes being caraway, lemon, clary sage, fig, milk, sandalwood & musk. Obviously I’m influenced by what I’m reading, but I feel like I smell literally all of these things in Clary Fig. It helps that it feels quite crisp and transparent, modern and clean.
The opening is very citrussy and green. Tart lemon with a strong aromatic tinge. Fig is also instantly noticeable. The spiciness landed for me on second wear.
As far as fig goes, this leans (as the name suggests) heavy into the aromatic and greener side. I get hints of crushed leaf or stems, almost bitter green. High in brightness and acidity; this would probably be best in Summer for me.
The drydown has that milky sandalwood vibe, but it remains rather bright and clean.
One that’s easy to enjoy and refreshing to wear. For my personal taste, definitely a bit heavy on green side, but that does help it stand out.
