‘A celebration of LA’s magical lure, from dusk to dawn. Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud offers a festive ode to Los Angeles by night, its excitement and extravagance, from star-studded boulevards to the constellations shimmering above the skyline. As darkness falls, the city’s lights surge in a sensual olfactory tableau. A citrus quintet dazzles like a thousand flashbulbs: lemon, blood orange, red mandarin, bergamot and lime swirl and dance, gradually succumbing to the Tiaré flower’s voluptuous embrace. Warmed by noble sandalwood, a dry down of powdery musk alludes to a passion that disperses only with the morning’s first rays. This is a painterly interpretation of a night in the City of Stars.’ – Louis Vuitton

City of Stars might be the first Louis Vuitton that wow’d me on first impression. The opening of this fragrance is absolutely stunning.

Straight away it is powdery, fresh and most importantly, tropical. It’s opening hour smells like a tropical ice cream flavour. I get the lime and the blood orange for sure, but also a peachy vibe and a sweet milkiness. City of Stars begins halfway between gourmand and body milk, but leaning more towards the latter as it dries.

Unfortunately the drydown is rather generic, sun-tan lotion-esque, very sweet and the performance isn’t great from what I can tell in my limited testing. That being said, it’s a beautiful scent and one of the few Louis Vuitton potentially on my wishlist, off the strength of that first 1-2 hours of the wear alone.
