I’ve never smelled the original Cigar Rum, but I have to say, I’m not a big fan of Cigar Rum Intense. It intrigues me, so I wore it 3-4x and emptied my sample, but I can’t say that I like it.
The opening is rather pungent. There’s a slight fecal edge, but like chocolate fecal (think of Rania J T. Habanero or Perris Monte Carlo Vanille De Tahiti). Mixed in with that is the booze. I often don’t pick up on boozy notes well, but here it’s instant and it’s a hefty dose. There’s a weird bit of acidity in here (the seaweed? no idea), and that sourish tinge is probably why I don’t like Cigar Rum Intense as much.
I would say I don’t get the tobacco nearly as much as the booze, or even the leathery aspects. I get way more of a cigar/tobacco scent in the brand’s Burning Ben for example (which I much prefer overall). I do like the leather here; it smells like a high quality smooth leather rubbed with rum-soaked raisins.
I want to like this. There is something there. I just haven’t reached that point yet.
