Chevalier de la Nuit opens very powerful and a bit sharp, with strong projection. I get a spicy, citrussy cola vibe from the opening. I think I get bitter orange and clove mainly. After half an hour it starts becoming more earthy, with a patchouli forward scent and it’s also quite musky
There’s a vanilla touch, but it’s not overly sweet at all. The most interesting part to this fragrance to me is the eucalyptus. It starts coming through after some minutes, but around the hour mark it becomes very prominent to my nose. It’s a slightly dirty, earthy green scent, but it’s also sparkling and bright, resulting in something that’s really pleasing to my nose (and if you’ve been following my IG, you know I’m not big on green fragrances, so that’s a surprise). It smells like something produced 2-3 decades ago (although this is a 2018 release), but it’s not dated.
It’s mainly a patchouli scent at its core, reminiscent a bit of Chanel Coromandel. It’s big, opulent, but not in a shouty way, I’d say it’s rather elegant and uplifting at the same time. The last thing I will say about the scent is that some wafts seem a little soapy to my nose; maybe that’s the vetiver or just the connection to eucalyptus, but because the texture is more powdery, it doesn’t feel like a soapy fragrance overall at all.
Chevalier smells perfectly unisex to my nose, probably aimed more at a mature audience. I love the presentation from the brand and they will run you around €160/100ml, so that’s not a bad deal at all for Chevalier. Performance is excellent.
