Carissa Flower is at the same time an unassiming, middle of the road fragrance to me, but also/therefore almost a rarity these days.

It’s mature and floral and feels devoid of any hype-seeking, trend-following or grandiose marketing to sell what is otherwise a perfectly fine fragrance. I mostly get osmanthus, which is a note that I enjoy; it’s not heavy on the peachy facets in Carissa Flower, but more on a slightly bitter, crunchy floral that gets increasingly sweet over time.

And that sweetness works here for me, because it feels very much honeyed. It starts leaning into a sun-tan type of sweetness with more honey and I think the bitterness adds to that beeswax-like experience. It’s probably some indols in the flowers that create this almost vaccuum-esque feeling.

This honeyed floral vibe sticks around for the entire wear on my skin and while it’s not the most interesting or outstanding fragrance (in general or from Amouroud), it’s a really solid release that’s worth checking out, especially if you’re into osmanthus.
