Broken Theories opens with a burning scent. It’s smoldering, fiery, yet not unpleasant. The spices are very prominent, so there is a a sharpness layered on top of the smoke. It must be the blood orange, although I don’t really recognize it, but there is a fruity sweetness. Very sugary; it’s as if someone set Baccarat Rouge 540 on fire.
That sensation fades quickly. Within minutes the smokiness becomes more and more woody. It smells like smoked wood chips with a mild sweetness and spice. It’s not for the faint of heart. The smokiness seems to be more an incense style than it’s coming from the tobacco to my nose. It’s pungent and relentless, but not dark per se. I like it, but I have to go light on the sprays.
