‘This fragrance is inspired by a figure from Ancient Greece, known as boutypos or “ox-slayer”. During that period, these individuals were in charge of performing ritual sacrifices. Thereafter, the Greek term “boietai” became linked to the strips of cowhide used to make the whips and belts brandished during torture practices. In Roman times, the term initially referred to the collar used to immobilise prisoners, before expanding to mean the figure of the executioner himself. Eventually, it was used to refer to the boia or executioner at the Gradara court; directly appointed by the king, he was responsible for putting to death anyone who had committed a crime or injustice. Boia is a precious fragrance that captures the essence of power and determination. This creation evokes an aura of mystery, inspired by history and a dark and shady figure. The role of the executioner has frequently been interpreted in society with a certain ambivalence; one section of the population considered him a necessary executor of justice, while others saw him as a controversial figure who was often feared. With its powerful and mysterious notes, this creation is an invitation to explore and embrace the two sides of your personality, to accept and understand the different aspects of your nature, including darkness, but promoting harmony between your light and dark sides through a quest for balance and tranquillity. Its notes celebrate the complexity, beauty and imperfection of human beings. The grey velvet bottle, characteristic of VCanto’s Anime del Castello collection, caresses the wearer’s skin, countering the harshness of the straps that enveloped the victims of the executioner’s sacrifice. Holding this bottle in your hand will allow you to live a unique sensory experience involving all your senses; as you touch it, you will notice the perfect contrast between the soft velvet and the heavy lacquered metal cap, inspired by knightly helmets. The fragrance opens with mellowness thanks to the Bulgarian Rose petals that romantically and passionately blend with the freshness and effervescence of the Sorrento Lemon. The accord of the Sri Lankan Davana adds a profound and intriguing touch combined with the Iranian Saffron that colours the notes with a golden thread of luxury and opulence. With irreverence, these top notes are enveloped by a sensual and profound heart, in which the freshness and Mediterranean aroma of the Portuguese Santolina intertwines with the spicy sweetness of the Indian Coumarin. The freshness of the Italian Lavender brings a sophisticated floral touch in contrast with the New Guinean Cypriol and Patchouli from Singapore, which envelop your sense of smell with a sensation of warmth and mystery. Finally, the Ambergris swathes the fragrance, creating a link between past and present, between different cultures and ancient traditions. The base is a riot of strength and softness at the same time. The woody notes of the Australian Sandalwood embrace the sweetness of the Madagascan Vanilla; the mellow aroma of the Ambergris, the ambrette and the Greek Opoponax together bring a touch of profundity and mysticism. Boia challenges conventions and explores new olfactory horizons. It embodies mystery, self-discovery and the revelations of our souls, reflecting both the luminous essence and profound darkness that lies in every one of us.’ – V Canto
