‘Blue Lotus Tahitensis is for lovers of plump, shiny, intensely floral Tahitian vanilla beans. This lavish new version of Blue Lotus features a whole kilogram of AAA+ grade Tahitian vanilla beans, hand-tinctured in our studio by Steve, as well as 500gm of supremely high quality CO2 extracted vanilla planifolia.’ – Teone Reinthal
I have not tried older versions of the coveted blue lotus, nor do I know what blue lotus smells like as a raw ingredient, but this Blue Lotus Tahitensis was my first and very pleasant introduction to TRNP.
A more vanillic take on the famed Blue Lotus DNA according to Teone. And vanilla it is, but very floral. Creamy, soft florals with a slight tropical tinge. Cardamom is present at first, but fades away.
There’s a small hint of orangey, peachy fruitiness to my nose. I get the ylang-ylang and this fragrance reminds me of a vanillic gardenia, except super smooth and creamy instead of powdery.
It’s been compared to Hiram Green’s Voyage 2019 and before seeing the comparison, that was also the fragrance that came to mind for me. I think a lot has to do with the way these natural ingredients come across. Voyage has a much more herbal quality to its opening and is overall more subtle in its sweetness. Instead, Blue Lotus Tahitensis smells like the most opulent, creamy sun tan lotion on me.
Performance feels very soft, probably the least performing of the handful of TRNP that I’ve tested so far, but it’s a majestic vanilla-floral scent that was a successful blind-buy for me.
