Bloody Rose sounded really good to me on paper, but I quickly knew I wasn’t going to be impressed by it. The culprit being the sort of harsh, ozonic orange blossom.
A style encountered often. Orange blossom done in this sharper style is something that is not up my alley and it’s been done many times (and frankly, many times better than in Bloody Rose). This remains quite sharp, with a white floral tinge. Orange blossom, jasmine, could also picture neroli here as it has that sharp soapy floral vibe. I wish the florals had a much softer or thicker texture, as the scent is not bad.
What I don’t get is praline. It warms and sweetens up as almost every scent does, but not really in a praline (or even much of an incense) direction to my nose. I can faintly imagine it, but I wish it would’ve added some creaminess or anything to set Bloody Rose apart scent wise; it doesn’t in my experience. It remains floral for most of the wear, but not in the most enjoyable way. Not terrible or anything, but definitely not an above average orange blossom (which I’d say is the main theme) to me. My favorite is probably still Eric Buterbaugh Oud Orange Flower.
