Black Orris is as the name suggests, a darker take on iris.
Definitely one of the most traditionally masculine leaning iris scents I’ve come across. The opening is dominated by very dry spices. The bergamot is there, but it’s hardly fresh; mostly you get pepper and perhaps nutmeg with the iris.
Black Orris definitely seems to be a slightly less leathery take on the ever-popular Dior Homme Parfum. Texture-wise both have an almost palpable dry sensation. On my skin Black Orris feels much more softened, especially in terms of projection. The softer qualities of the iris are more prominent throughout. At the same time the spices are a tad more pronounced versus the leather that overtake the Dior. In the later drydown it gets significantly sweeter (labdanum).
As I love Dior Homme Parfum, Black Orris is a nice scent and probably my favorite from the ones I’ve tried from HFC so far.
