‘Smoke, scent, another shot. He soaks in the buzz, steals the scene, and swaps one bar with another. As he arrives, everything starts. The moonlight nestles in his glass; the night becomes his shadow. A full-bodied leather blend, warm smoky oud, a carnal breath of jasmine. From the last whiff of coffee to the pale fumes of dawn. Until the stars burn out.’ – Gritti
Gritti is a brand that I’d only tried in stores before this, so I was curious. Straight away, this is on the heavier, darker side. A combination of leather and bitter, roasted coffee opens this fragrance and it’s more on the louder, sharper and statement-making side, than subtle.
Jasmine is listed, but it reminds me a bit of the metallic rose tinge and oudiness found in some Montale fragrances, which alongside the leather and coffee makes for quite a sensual, seductive style of scent.
Biassanot is an interesting mix, because it leans very sweet, but it also has some greener facets, likely from the vetiver and hay notes used. The greenish leather reminds me a bit of Alghabra Ancient Fortress & Labyrinth of Spices’ openings, but the drydowns are not comparable.
Overall, a bit smoky, a bit spicy. Biassanot is more modern and flashy, with a big emphasis on the leather aspect.
This probably wouldn’t be my first pick from the Gritti line (from the ones I know, I liked Damascus), but it grew on me. This is the type of fragrance that I’d wear more to make a statement or attract others than for my myself, and I do think this would work best for a night out for example. For people who look for more dominant and heavy fragrances, Biassanot will not disappoint. Personally, it’s not a favorite.
