‘And then it appears low on the horizon, the Light of Heaven. His red star warms the universe’s palette before disappearing from sight.
Girdled by cold hues, Betelgeuse allures with its reassuring beam those who can savour its true beauty. An enticing note of iris creates a comforting illusion of its powdery core: a hazy floral opening brightens and fades in a charismatic epilogue of oakmoss and coffee accord.’- In Astra
Before trying the brand, Betelgeuse is the one that caught my eye the most, because it lists iris and coffee. It’s not as gourmand as I imagined. At first it made me think of aromatic leathery for a moment (similar to pure osmanthus).
Soon it reveals itself as a dry, earthy scent that takes me back to smelling pulled out roots of plants, but at times the earthiness veers into chocolate or coffee territory, making it very approachable for those (like me) that don’t always love green or earthy scents.
The iris has a real rooty quality, adding to that earthy vibe, without smelling like actual earth; carroty without the carrot acidity, more like cooked carrots I guess. Interesting fragrance, that doesn’t instantly recall other scents, which is always a plus. Seems to sit very close to the skin for me.
