Maison Sybarite is a brand that utilizes a new technique to be water-based and this makes for a very interesting, milky opaque consistency of the fragrance. When applied to skin, there’s a bit of a white, milky liquid at first, which I have to say I wasn’t a fan of.
Scent-wise, I started off trying Amber Gaze and Bed of Roses, the latter being my favorite on first impression, but both were really good.
Bed Of Roses was a beautiful surprise. As with Amber Gaze, I did have the feeling that I may perceive this quite differently than some others and I wonder if perhaps my samples were aged (given that the water-based perfumes have a shorter shelf life); especially with Bed Of Roses, I felt like a lot of the acidity and top was missing (this could also be a result of not having the alcohol to project off skin).
So, I didn’t get the citrus and I barely, if at all got rose from this on my first wear. Instead, I get a rather strong, milky iris. The iris is sweet, almost chocolate-like and spiced. Cardamom is the most prominent thing to me aside from the iris. The consistency felt as milk as the juice itself is, which helps in making this almost gourmand.
The saffron is understated, but it adds the tiniest leathery tinge. I really wish I’d gotten a bit more of a transition from the citrus opening, but it felt like it went straight to the drydown, for a linear wear. I also wish that I detected a bit more rose. That being said, I absolutely loved what I did smell a lot. If you’re looking for a somewhat unique, comforting, but spicy, milky, sweet iris, this one is worth checking out.
