‘The light and carefree atmosphere of the Belle Époque. The setting: the beautifully flowered garden of the Spoturno family home, pioneers of orange tree cultivation on their estate, overlooking the Bay of Ajaccio, lulled by the sea breeze.’ – Spoturno
‘During the Belle Époque, Barbicaja was a renowned spot on the Ajaccio coastline, coveted by anyone who had ever been to the Riviera. Known for its beauty, it was a destination for European high society. It was here, along the Route des Sanguinaires, that François Spoturno bought the Barbicaja property, which had been in his family for several decades. When Véronique shared this family memory with me, I had the idea of a carefree, happy scent, revealing a sea breeze, scented with orange blossom and jasmine, with a fruity apricot note. Barbicaja tells of the arrival of the fresh evening air. Marine, scented with orange blossom and crisp foliage, it evokes a kind of floral breeze, as fresh in my mind as the promise of an evening of happiness, friendship, relaxation, and seduction.’ – Christophe Sheldrake
