Aube Rubis was my first ever experience with Atelier Des Ors. The house has since become one of my favorites and Aube Rubis is somewhere in the upper-middle level from their line for me.
The opening has some fruitiness, but I wouldn’t call it fresh or bright, it’s pretty subdued. Straight from the get-go, the star of the show is on stage, patchouli. It’s more of a gourmand style patchouli and there is no green in sight.
Aube Rubis is very dry and powdery, or more accurately, it’s dusty. The chocolate vibe from the patchouli reminds me of chocolate dust that you might find on a cake or pralinés (which is listed as a note). I don’t know if I would call it gourmand however, I don’t feel it’s sweet enough to really make that connection. There’s a nice warmth to it all though. I would’ve thought there was amber in this, but I don’t think it is. The same goes for oud; the woodiness in the base reminds me of a light oud scent, but there are no woods listed. There’s vetiver, but I don’t pick up on that much. There’s a floral quality in Aube Rubis, but that’s mainly the powdery iris. Because of the iris, there’s a hint of Dior Homme to this, although this is sweeter.
