‘Across the universe the blazing red lucida lights up the sky before ending its existence. The fiery Heart reveals its magnificence for one last time. Engulfed in a narcotic aroma, the opulence of white flowers with a fresh accent of pink pepper leads the way to bloom in a powerful amber and woody accord. Antares’ true core, herald of midsummer.’ – In Astra

Tuberose is one of those notes that I, like many, needed a long adjustment period for. I’ve started appreciating it more and more, although it can still be a bit of a challenge. Which brings us to Antares, the tuberose-centric offering from In Astra.

The opening minute feels a bit chaotic. Quite bubblegummy white florals with a lot of sweetness. In the opening, that combination comes across candy-like and it can be a bit cloying. As it dries down, there’s a more vanillic, ambery core that presents itself, but at the same time, it’s unmistakably white floral.

To me Antares is almost like a rubbery, plasticy tuberose; I wouldn’t say it’s indolic or having a fleshy, meaty thick quality that tuberose can have. It’s more on the greener, brighter and sharper side, yet sweeter and more bubblegummy than for example Frederic Malle Carnal Flower. Despite the sharp and bright tones, it lacks some levity and is quite heavy of a wear for this style of scent.

Antares feels like more of an abstract take on the white florals, with a slight tropical tinge as well from the frangipani. Antares is a big fragrance, which flirts with being challenging at times for me, but doesn’t overdo it.

Tistar is my favorite In Astra and Antares lacks the comforting quality of it, but it’s a nice and intriguing take on tuberose. Somewhat accessible, despite not shying away from the note at all.
