Ambre Supreme is a statement maker from the moment you spray it on. It was highly anticipated by enthusiasts of precious materials as it uses an unprecedented 10% of grey ambergris.
And you do get a clear, slightly animalic aquatic tinge from the ambergris. It’s also rather sweet and juicy; the combination with the white florals kind of reminds me of a fruitiness. It also reminds me quite a bit of the fruity animalics from Ensar Oud’s Iris Ghalia, albeit it fresher and cleaner overall (and therefore easier to wear).
It’s an interesting combination of fresh, animalic, sweet, acidic and some green. There’s pink pepper, clary sage, cardamom and immortelle adding to a green-ish spiciness. It gives the fragrance quite a retro feeling, yet more juicy than I would expect for that style. Up close you get more of the animalic tinge, but in the air it comes across less daring (if you find animalic daring).
No matter how you spin it, Ambre Supreme isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s very well-rounded and a couple of hours into the wear, it settles into a what I assume to be a very manageable scent profile for anyone. I liked it more and more. I tested it alongside Iris Perle and Musc Des Sables and I expected to like both of them better, but surprisingly Ambre Supreme might be my favorite among those and it could easily end up on my wishlist after some more testing.
