This is a special edition bottle of AMBRE NUIT (2018) .
Ambre Nuit was first released in 2009 as part of the Colognes collection curated by creative director Hedi Slimane. It was released in an EDP concentration in 2010, which was later re-released and reformulated in 2018 signed by in-house perfumer Francois Demachy. In 2024, Ambre Nuit Esprit de Parfum was released under direction of Francis Kurkdjian.
      ‘NAME
Ambre Nuit is born of the creative play of Dior Perfumer-Creator Francois Demachy. Like an ambery and nocturnal wave, the fragrance Ambre Nuit draws its name from these two strong facets of its personality.
      CHARACTER
Ambre Nuit is an oriental fragrance. The instant power of the fragrance, born from the animal notes of Amber, is softened by sensual, velvety accents. A character that is both forthright and secretive.
      DISTINGUISHING FEATURE
Ambre Nuit is an ambery floral fragrance vivified by soft spicy notes.
      COLOUR
Ambre Nuit is multi-faceted with the honeyed, golden gleam of Amber and the intense rosy touches of Turkish Rose, as imposing as a velvet tapestry.
      FAMILY
Oriental-Floral. The fragrance Ambre Nuit is the encounter between two extremes: Amber with an animal facet and Turkish Rose unfurling its delicateness and sophistication.
      INTENSITY
The intensity of the fragrance is composed around a contrast between the flower and the animal note. Neither too delicate nor too wild, the fragrance is both powerful and enveloping.
Ambre Nuit orchestrates the encounter between two extremes. It is, in a way, the olfactory expression of Beauty and the Beast. The fragrance teams the dark, animal facet of Amber with the delicate, velvet of Turkish Rose. It is like an ambery and nocturnal wave, where delicateness and strength enter into dialogue and opposites attract in a powerful duo.’ – Dior

AMBRE NUIT (New Look Edition) (2022) • DIOR🔺, ScentAdvice

Ambre Nuit had been near the top of my to-try list from the start of my fragrance journey. When I was finally able to get the miniature Maison Christian Dior set, this was the first one to get a write up. Did Ambre Nuit live up to my own hype?

For the most part; yes. It’s a great, easy to love warm scent. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the amber and ambergris in Ambre Nuit (both might be in there, but they are unrelated notes). I don’t get much ambergris at all personally. I don’t get a marine, sea breeze vibe from this or even the type of mineralic sweetness that ambergris can convey. Ambre Nuit and Xerjoff 40 Knots are often compared and in my opinion 40 Knots does have that sea side vibe in a much much stronger sense, making them quite different.

I mainly get an amber accord; resinous, warm, sweet vanilla and resins. In the opening there’s a floral and citrussy touch. There’s rose, but you almost have to look for it; if you’re not a huge fan of rose fragrances, I don’t think you should avoid this one without trying. It has a hint of smoke, which reminds me a bit of tobacco blossom. In a way I find Ambre Nuit to be interesting when honing in on the small details, but a bit more common than I would like from a distance.

There are some spices, the rose is a nice subtle touch. The texture is different from most amber-forward scents that I’ve tried, with it being more powdery ande delicate. It finds a nice balance with a sweet resinous accord, while it remains light overall. All that being said, I wish the nuances were a bit more prominent. I appreciate the beauty of this scent on one hand, but on the other it’s a bit too straightforward in how sweet it gets for me.

Because it feels so light, I was a bit worried about performance from the moment I applied it; it felt like it would be fleeting in moments. I have to say that the projection is very moderate (pretty much a skin scent), a bit more moderate than I’d ideally want. In conclusion; I wasn’t disappointed by Ambre Nuit and I wouldn’t mind owning a bottle, but it’s not the must-have that I hoped it would be and I personally much prefer Xerjoff’s 40 Knots over Ambre Nuit.
