‘Amazonia Love draws its inspiration from the extraordinary duality of the Amazon, both a wild land of incredible biodiversity and the myth of the Amazon, the legendary intrepid warrior. This fragrance thus embodies the subtle fusion between these two fascinating worlds. Exotic notes are represented by maracuja, pomelo and coconut which evoke the lushness of the jungle, while mate, sandalwood and vanilla symbolize the strength and daring side of the amazon. The perfume thus celebrates the power of nature and the ferocity of the warrior woman, capturing the free and wild spirit that animates both the Amazon and the Amazon.’ – Neil Jacquet

Amazonia Love is the first release by Neil Jacquet and it’s pretty much a recipe for hype with a combination of buzzworthy notes such as maracuja, passion fruit, coconut & vanilla.

To me there are two sides to the Amazonia Love experience, one which I prefer significantly over the other.

The side that I’m drawn to is the fruitiness. You get a hint of that bitter side of grapefruit and sweeter fruitiness. It comes across very tropical and I really enjoy Amazonia Love the most when its at its most acidic and bright. It’s not overly sweet and juicy, but you get some of the rind and what I perceive as ‘realistic’ scent of the whole fruits as well.

The side that I’m on the fence about is the sweetness. Coconut and vanilla is pleasant enough to be sure, but for me it goes a bit in the designer-JPG Le Beau-direction with an aquatic, maybe even aromatic edge, before going full-on vanillic. There are moments where the coconut stands out and I like it, but there are moments where I feel the sweetness takes away from the lovely fruitiness as well.

Performance is good; it’s an extrait at 30%, so it lasts, but for a Summery fragrance, a lot of the wear is sweet and vanillic. I’d say you come for the fruitiness, but you stay if you’re a sweet tooth.

Overall, this is a crowd-pleasing fragrance, with a concept that I think will instantly appeal to most people, although it may not wow the more critical niche-snob with its quality. It definitely made me curious to see what follow-up release will be like for Neil Jacquet.
