Alien Man Fusion does not seem to be a popular Mugler, however, I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
It’s a weird dichotomy of coffee and osmanthus that feels like it shouldn’t work, which kept me on my toes for the entire wear. I really enjoyed the coffee note here; it’s a dark roasted coffee, but far from natural, it’s basically something entirely different, especially in the drydown. The osmanthus gives a fruity floral edge, but I also get a herbal scent. It gives the composition a refreshing quality in the opening, although it becomes a much warmer fragrance in the drydown.
There’s a lot going on in Alien Fusion Man, but it all comes off synthetic and hard to pinpoint. There are sharper spices in the opening minutes and in the later drydown more of the woods and a hint of leather comes through. What I like most about it is the roasted quality and the fact that this doesn’t become overly sweet at all.
The performance is okay. There’s nothing wrong with the longevity, but I wish it projected stronger. The rather unnatural scents and interesting contradiction keep this from being a comfort scent, but I kept smelling my arm a lot on my first wears and I didn’t grow tired of it. Not bad, not bad.
