It’s not surprising that this is a popular release from the brand, because this is a very mass-appealing, accessible style. It opens with a beautiful, natural grapefruit scent and that’s my favorite part of the wear, because you really get the grapefruit nuance.
The citrus aspect lingers for quite a while, but it becomes more of a mixed citrus after a while (there’s also lemon and mandarin) and loses the distinct grapefruit edge. 801 is also aquatic from the opening, you get a healthy dose of a sea breeze, brine vibe that takes you straight to the seaside. It’s not too salty, though also not really natural smelling, because you get that ‘white musk’, fresh linen blended in, reminding me a bit of Lacoste Blanc.
It’s supported by common collaborators like rosemary, cedar and nutmeg, for a nice aromatic touch, that’s pleasant and should be familiar to people looking for this style of fragrance. Overall, it’s hard to go wrong with 801, you get what you came for.
The performance isn’t mind-blowing, but it lasts pretty well for a fresher scent. As it seems with all the Bon Parfumeur’s, pricing is a huge plus. Retail is €82/100ml, you have the discount and free shipping and you can even opt for a 30ml at €38. At those prices, it’s a safe bet and a better option than the aforementioned Lacoste or similar cheaper/designer options in my opinion.
