I first sampled Aura of Kazahkstan in 2020/2021 and it’s quite an underrated line-up. Not all are to my taste, but definitely intriguing compositions, especially by Sarah McCartney (of 4160 Tuesdays) and the brand seems to have a distinctive direction. 7 As A Constant is the 2023 addition, which fits right in and it’s my favorite from the brand so far.
It’s not all that often anymore that I come across a fragrance that I have trouble describing. It took multiple wearings to get an idea of 7 As A Constant for me and I don’t have many references at hand to compare it to, which is always a compliment.
This is a fruity fragrance, with apricot and osmanthus as prominent facets. The fruitiness is on the subtle, watery side as far as the amount of ‘flavoring’ goes.
There’s a booziness to my nose (likely from the davana) and there’s an ever so slightly cold, smoky edge, giving at once a forest vibe, but also reminding me of tea. In particular, the closest reference for the smell that came to my mind was a steaming cup of forest fruits tea.
A rather warm scent, but with an acidic tinge and the smokiness is on the minty, camphorous side. Reminding me mostly of blackcurrant or berry fragrances, perhaps Olympic Orchids Blackbird or The Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest.
7 As A Constant feels less ‘forest’ and more subtle however, with a smooth resinous texture as it starts to dry down. Sweet, but not completely overtaking the fruitiness and bright hints.
Quite unique, yet versatile and pleasant. A great mix of greener, fruity and sweeter elements. I look forward to giving this more wears, but it gets a big thumbs up.
