Vetiver, cedarwood and bergamot are notes that I had a clear expectation of and 601 delivers on those expectations.
Let me start off by saying that I really enjoy the branding and concept of Bon Parfumeur. Their bottles are minimal, but the entire presentation feels high quality none the less. Judging by the names of their fragrances, I assume most are on the minimal side as well.
At least 601 is, which makes sense, because Bon Parfumeur suggests layering options with several of their other fragrances. As I mentioned above, this is pretty much what I expect from a vetiver/cedar fragrance. It feels ‘Nordic’, cooling and I definitely get cedar and pepper as the main players. It’s a nice balance between the quite strong woody scent and the bergamot and grapefruit. The vetiver doesn’t come off fully soapy like in Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, but definitely not too green for my taste either, it finds a woody balance.
It’s not the most unique style, but easy to love. The closest fragrance in my collection is Terre d’Hermes, but 601 is brighter, more sparkling and a lot more peppery. I can’t stress enough the hefty dose of pepper, and there’s also violet, so there’s a sharpness that gives it a punch, though never too harsh. I think the opening is beautiful with the citrus touches. Luckily the citrus isn’t too fleeting, but once it’s gone, you’re left with a pleasant, rather basic peppery woody drydown.
