1957 sometimes feels a bit like ‘the forgotten’ Les Exclusif to me. Maybe that’s just me, but I don’t hear talk of it often. In fact, it’s a really nice release for me.
Opening very crisp, tart. The iris is almost bitter and there’s a lot of citrus. Bergamot, but also lemon to my nose.
The dry, bitter tones remind me a little bit of almond at times, but it doesn’t get too sweet. Instead, 1957 is huge on aldehydes and even huger on white musk.
The more this fragrance dries down, the more I get a laundry detergent from it. Very clean, powdery and classy. Not overly soft or cozy though, remaining on that crisper, sharper side (more like the detergent than the clothes afterwards).
If you don’t like that baby powder tinge, it will be too much in that direction I presume, but otherwise, it’s a nice and sophisticated take on this style.
