This fragrance is quite different from what I had in mind. On paper you mainly get the vanilla with some ginger and pepper; a lot brighter and more in the gourmand direction than it actually is. This is a burning, fiery woody amber first and foremost. Not a favorite for me.
It opens quite spicy and it’s instantly woody. The vanilla is definitely present straight away, but it’s not an edible scent; it’s quite strong. There is saffron and patchouli creating a sharper, heavier sensation. The ginger is the uplifting part in the initial hour(s) more so than the vanilla.
14 Hour Dream is supposed to be ‘a tribute to Pink Floyd’s psychedelic music’ and the 1967 ’14 Hour Technicolor Dream’ festival. The patchouli is definitely a call back to those days, but overall this fragrance feels very modern in style and texture to me.
As it dries I get more and more of a dry woody scent like cedar, overloaded with vanilla. It’s a an easy going scent-profile, but it’s executed far into the strong, loud and at times a bit screechy side, rather than a softer and smoother experience; whether that is a con or a pro will depend on your taste. I didn’t really like it much & it’s perhaps the first time I didn’t enjoy wearing an Antoine Lie creation.
